Briefing & Research
The Wastewater Treatment and Reuse Group at the UNAM Institute of Engineering (GTR) is an environmental engineering research group dedicated to the study of wastewater and its applications through various techniques. Currently, their research focuses on the detection of helminth eggs through the development of the Helminth Egg Detection Software, which analyzes wastewater samples.
In 2024, the GTR completed the development of a new helminth egg detection software in collaboration with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. This software is designed to enable the detection of helminth eggs in remote areas, as it functions without an internet connection.
Following the development of this software, the GTR proposed the creation of a website that would allow researchers from around the world to download it for use in helminth egg research. In addition, a UI design update for the software’s graphical interface was requested to improve the user experience.
From this point, I also began to suggest using the website to share more information about the GTR and its members, details about its research on helminth egg detection, general information about helminth eggs, and to create a database of users who have downloaded the software. The goal of this initiative is to expand the community of helminth egg researchers and gather feedback on the software's usage.
