Problem

The Institute of Engineering at UNAM (IIUNAM) has launched an initiative to promote and highlight the Interdisciplinary Research Groups (GII) through a dedicated web portal for these groups. IIUNAM aims to provide visibility to the projects carried out by the GII and emphasize the importance and impact of these groups in the field of engineering in Mexico.

Solution

The web portal will focus on promoting interdisciplinary collaboration and collaborative work among different engineering disciplines. It is expected that this digital platform will serve as a space for exchanging knowledge and experiences among members of the GII, fostering synergy and the generation of new ideas and innovative solutions.

IIUNAM is driving the creation of a dedicated web portal for the Interdisciplinary Research Groups (GII) with the goal of promoting, highlighting, and sharing the projects, achievements, and history of these groups. Through this platform, the aim is to enhance visibility and collaboration among GII members, thus fostering advancements in research and development in the field of engineering in Mexico.

In the 2023 Call for Interdisciplinary Research Groups (GII) by the Institute of Engineering at UNAM (IIUNAM), internal support was granted for the formation and operation of the GII, with the objective of developing projects in the Strategic Thematic Research Axes  of Smart Cities and Water-Energy-Environment-Food Security Nexus. In this first edition of the call, a total of four projects were approved in these thematic areas.

Hypothesis

We start with the hypothesis that the Interdisciplinary Research Groups (GII) require greater online dissemination and positioning to consolidate their position as one of the most important projects of IIUNAM.

Context

In April 2022, the organization work began to invite academics from the Institute of Engineering at UNAM and other interested academic institutions to participate in the call. This process culminated in February 2023 with the official start of four approved projects. As part of this drive for the Interdisciplinary Research Groups (GII), the creation of a website has been requested to serve as a platform to promote and highlight the GII, their coordinators, collaborators, and the projects that will be developed within them. Currently, four projects have been approved in this call.

Users

The website is primarily used by the IIUNAM community, as well as researchers and students from various educational levels and different parts of the world.

Researchers will be able to stay informed about the progress achieved by the Interdisciplinary Research Groups (GII), as well as future calls for new projects that may be of their interest.
